Chaire Gaz Naturel ENAC

Following the success of last year, the Laboratory of Soil Mechanics (LMS) of EPFL is pleased to announce the 3rd edition of the Winter School on Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment .

The school will be held on January 21st-23rd 2020, in Villars-sur-Ollon, Switzerland. Geomechanics, Environment and Energy are increasingly related and contemporary themes. The goal of the school is to provide participants with a deep understanding on selected topics in Geomechanics which are fundamental for applications related to Energy and the Environment. This Winter School was organized in the framework of the international journal  Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment.

Message from Professor Lyesse Laloui

I would like to welcome you to the chair “Gaz Naturel”. CO2 sequestration in deep geological formations is one of most suitable solutions for CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage). The challenges for the chair “Gaz Naturel” deal with the understanding and the prediction of the effects of the surrounding environment, of mechanical and chemical changes as well as heat effect during CO2 injection and storage. The interplay between transport, reaction and mechanics is tackled through innovative interdisciplinary research both experimentally and numerically. Our aim is to advance the scientific knowledge and provide reliable solutions to the industry.

Professor Lyesse Laloui

Director of Laboratory of Soil Mechanics, Chair “Gaz Naturel” Petrosvibri
