SNSF Consolidator Grant 2022

SERI has mandated the SNSF to implement a transitional solution for the 2022 ERC CoG call. This transitional solution is called “SNSF Consolidator Grants 2022.

Open to researchers of any nationality who intend to conduct their research in Switzerland. Applicants with a PhD or MD-PhD awarded >7 and ≤12 years at the time of submission are eligible. They have shown research independence and have produced several important contributions to science. They want to conduct groundbreaking and ambitious research in Switzerland.The budget can be up to CHF 1.75 million, + additional funding up to CHF 0.87 million (for specific cost categories) for a period of max. 5 years.

A commitment letter from the host institution must be provided. Please check the requirements in the Reseach office’s SNSF CoG toolkit.

Please note that the ENAC School will only support, besides ENAC professors, researchers who (i) are MER or PTIT with a permanent position at ENAC or (ii) have a permanent position at a Suisse Research Institute and willing to expand their group at ENAC.

Deadlines for project submission:

  • Call opening: 1 March 2022
  • Deadline for pre-registration: 1 May 2022
  • Deadline for submission: 1 June 2022

SNSF Professorial Fellowships 2023

SNSF Deadline: 1 February 2023

The call will open on 1 November 2022

This fellowship allows outstanding researchers,  who have achieved scientific independence and contributed to impactful research in the field, to lead an independent research project and direct a team of researchers in any disciplines in Switzerland.

  • Funding: Max. CHF 1M for max. 5 years + applicant’s salary.
  • Eligibility: Max. 10 years after PhD ( before 01.05.2023) + min. 3 years of research after PhD (before 01.02.2023). Applicants must not have held, hold or have been assured of a temporary or permanent assistant professorship position (professors and MERs are NOT eligible). Min. 2 years of research activity (with average work quota of 80%) at a Swiss higher education institution, or Swiss nationality or Swiss higher education degree.

The SNSF Professorial Fellowships replace SNSF PRIMA Grants (for women only) and SNSF Eccellenza that are discontinued.

The SNSF will award approximately 45 fellowships per call.

For support from the EPFL ENAC School:

The SNSF requires a  general confirmation letter from the EPFL (handled by EPFL Research office) and a detailed confirmation letter from the ENAC host institute (handled by ENAC Dean’s Office).

  • Check first ENAC’s internal deadlines and requirements (see below), to obtain the Detailed Confirmation Letter.
  • Submit a pre-application (see toolkit) to the EPFL Research Office, to obtain the General Confirmation Letter.
  • At EPFL, grantees who are awarded an SNSF Professorial Fellowship shall be appointed by the ETH-Board as assistant professors without tenure track and will receive CHF 100K in startup funds (see toolkit).

ENAC School internal procedure and deadlines:

  1. Nov 7 2022 (later applications will not be considered!): candidates should send to [email protected] following documents (as 1 pdf file):
    • 4-page synopsis of planned research, incl. novelty, challenges, methods
    • CV and track-record/publication list
    • Letter of motivation (choice of Host School and Institute : how do you fit into ENAC School and the selected Institute IIE/IIC/IA) (1 page)
    • Infrastructure needs (1/2 page)
  2. Early December 2022: eligible candidates will be invited for an internal interview with Faculty members of the ENAC School (exact dates and details on the format will be communicated after submission of the file (step 1)).
  3. End of December 2022: The ENAC selection board communicates directly to the candidate their decision to support or not the candidate for this call. The ENAC Dean’s office will send the applicants the signed Detailed Confirmation Letter.
  4. The supported candidates submit their pre-application to the EPFL Research Office (see above) to obtain the General Confirmation Letter.

SNSF Postdoctoral Fellowships

SNSF Postdoctoral Fellowships

The SNSF Postdoctoral Fellowships replace the Marie Skłodovska-Curie Fellowships and target postdoctoral researchers who want to do a research project with a host institution in Switzerland.

Eligibility: Researchers within their 8 years after obtainment of the doctoral degree and who have not lived or worked in Switzerland for more than 12 months within the last 3 years prior to the submission deadline are eligible to submit project-proposals for the duration of 12-24 months.
