SNSF Starting grant

SNSF Deadline: 1 February 2022

Important update 25.11.2021: the SNSF Starting Grants 2022 target researchers who wanted to apply for a 2022 ERC Starting Grant or for an SNSF Eccellenza Professorial Fellowship. Consequently, there will be no Eccellenza call 2022.

SNSF Starting grant 2022 call document

  • Funding: Max. CHF 1.8M for max. 5 years (including applicant’s salary, if applicable).
  • Elgibility: 3 to 8 years of scientific activity after the doctoral exam.
  • Do you hold a professorship position?
    • Yes: to obtain the General Confirmation Letter, submit draft application and detailed confirmation letter (template in the Toolkit) signed by Institute Director to [email protected], indicating your commitment time to the project (min. 50%).
    • No: to obtain the General Confirmation Letter, follow the internal process put in place for Eccellenza and ERC StG (Toolkit). Should you be awarded an SNSF StG and be appointed by the ETH-Board, you will receive the title of assistant professor (non tenure track).
  • Register for the EPFL Applicant Workshop on December 15 at 12:00.

The ENAC School supports candidates who wish to apply to the SNSF Starting Grants. Candidates will be interviewed and assessed by ENAC Direction Board and ENAC professors working in related areas.

Due to the recent changes in the SNSF Eccellenza 2022 call, we’ll stay as flexible as possible with regards to the below internal deadlines. Please write an email to [email protected] if you have questions!

ENAC internal deadlines, requirements and procedures:

Friday Nov 5 2021 – noon CET:

Applicants should send to [email protected] following information:

  • a short motivation – why do you want to submit an Eccellenza application with ENAC School and the selected ENAC Institute (IA/IIC/IIE)?
  • CV, publication list
  • 1 page synopsis of the planned research and career plan
  • Infrastructure needs

Applicants should have finished and submitted their pre-application via EPFL ReO platform MoveIn

Between Nov 30 and Dec 2 2021:

Eligibility checks by EPFL Research Office and ENAC School  

Dec 3 2021:

Invitation for the ENAC internal interview (eligible and pre-selected candidates only)

Dec 8/9 2021:

ENAC internal interviews with the pre-selected candidates (45 min) – TBC: in-presence or via zoom

ENAC Interview committee will constitute out of: Dean or Associate dean, Institute director, Section director, expert(s) from the field  

Dec 20 (at the latest):

Candidates will be informed about the outcome of their application and interview, and receive the signed detailed confirmation letter in case they are selected.

The ENAC School supports candidates who wish to apply to PRIMA  grants of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

Interested candidates have to contact a potential ENAC host laboratory at one of the three ENAC Institutes directly, and submit their pre-application form through the EPFL MoveIn platform, including the Detailed Confirmation Letter signed by the Host professor, by 1 October 2021 at the latest. The ENAC Institute Director will then be able to review and counter-sign the Detailed Confirmation Letter.

The ENAC School supports candidates who wish to apply to Ambizione grants of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
