Videoconferencing

In the light of the current situation, EPFL has taken measures to slow the spread of the COVID-19.

Candidacy Exams and Oral Thesis Exams can be held by videoconference or in person with a hybrid format (in person and by Zoom for some participants).

For the in-person part, the measures specified above (room capacity of 1/3, social distancing and mask) should be respected.

External experts are strongly encouraged to connect by Zoom.

By videoconference: The Jury President is responsible for the management of the exam (Candidacy and Oral Thesis exams). The best option is that the Jury President initiates the videoconference (e.g., have the “host” role on Zoom). This allows the president to mute/unmute participant(s).

We provide help and support for the organisation of videoconferences during:

For all requests, we handle:

  • Getting in touch with the remote site technician
  • A connection test (at least 48 hours before)
  • Technical assistance on the day of the videoconference

All requests for videoconferencing must be made using the reservation form at least 10 working days in advance.
