Double Degree EPFL-TUM | Mechanical Engineering

EPFL Students
EPFL students who have successfully completed their bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and have been selected (see conditions) during their 1st semester of Master will be able to participate in the double degree program.

Étudiants TUM
TUM students who have successfully completed their bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and have been selected (see conditions) will be able to participate in the double degree program.

EPFL students

  • 1st year of Master in mechanical engineering at EPFL (60 ECTS)
  • 2nd yer at TUM (60 ECTS) – Master’s thesis in automotive engineering at TUM (30 ECTS). The 90 ECTS obtained at TUM will be recognized by EPFL.

TUM students

  • 1st year of Master in mechanical engineering at EPFL (60 ECTS)
  • 3rd semester at EPFL (30 ECTS) – two or three semesters at TUM (courses + master’s thesis, min. 60 ECTS). At least 90 ECTS must be obtained at EPFL.

Master’s thesis

The master’s thesis can be carried out in a laboratory or within a company. It must be written in German or in English. The oral defense takes place at TUM either in English or in German. A written summary must be submitted in the other language.

Teaching languages

  • EPFL: English and/or French
  • TUM: German and/or English

Once the participants have met the graduation requirements of each of the partner universities, they will receive two degrees:

Master of Science/Ingénieur mécanicien diplômé EPF from EPFL

Master of Science/Dipl.-Ing. from TUM
