Double Degree EPFL-ISAE SUPAERO | Mechanical Engineering

EPFL Students

Students of the Mechanical Engineering Section in the 1st year of Master may apply to ISAE-SUPAERO to pursue the “ingénieur ISAE-SUPAERO” course of study. If admitted, they will start their double degree program after validating the 1st year of the Master at EPFL (60 ECTS).

Eligibility conditions:

EPFL students must have obtained their bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with an overall average of at least 5.

ISAE-SUPAERO students

ISAE students in the 2nd year of the “Ingénieur ISAE-SUPAERO” course of study may apply for the following EPFL master’s degree programs:

  • Master in Mechanical Engineering
  • Master in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Master in Computational Science and Engineering
  • Master in Life Sciences Engineering
  • Master in Management, Technology and Entrepreneurship

If admitted, they will start the double degree program after validating the first two years of their engineering training (Master 1 equivalent).

Eligibility conditions:

ISAE-SUPAERO students must have an overall average of at least 14/20 over the first two years of the engineering training.

EPFL students

Two different training paths of 180 ECTS credits are offered within this double degree program at ISAE-SUPAERO:

1st training path:

  • 1st year (semestrer 1 and 2) of Master at EPFL (60 ECTS)
  • Semesters 3, 4 and 5: courses at ISAE-SUPAERO
  • Semester 6: individual end-of-study project in industry (end-of-study internship, stage de fin d’étude, SFE).

    A total of 120 ECTS credits are obtained at ISAE-SUPAERO

2nd training path:

  • 1st year (semester 1 and 2) of Master at l’EPFL (60 ECTS)
  • Semester 3: courses at ISAE-SUPAERO
  • Semester 4: internship in industry
  • Semester 5: courses at ISAE-SUPAERO
  • Semester 6: individual end-of-study project in a research laboratory (SFE, master’s thesis)

    A total of 120 ECTS credits are obtained at ISAE-SUPAERO

ISAE-SUPAERO students

A training path of 180 ECTS credits is offered within this double degree program at EPFL:

  • Students validate their 2nd year of “Ingénieur ISAE-SUPAERO” course of study (Master 1/60 ECTS)
  • Internship in industry (from 8 weeks to 6 months)
  • Master 2 : courses and master’s thesis (minimum duration of 4 months) in a research laboratory

    A total of 120 ECTS credits are obtained at EPFL

End-of-study project or master’s thesis

The academic supervisors of each institution must approve the subject of the end-of-study project or master’s thesis. The student submits a written report and performs an oral defense in French or in English. The defense takes place at the host institution. One or more members of the home institution may be part of the academic committee responsible for evaluating the project (in situ or by video conference).

EPFL students

To be admitted to the “Ingénieur ISAE-SUPAERO” training program, EPFL students must have at least a B2 level in French.

In order to obtain their “Ingénieur ISAE-SUPAERO” degree, EPFL students must pass the TOEFL test (paper-based (PBT) or internet-based (IBT) format) and obtain a minimum overall score of 580 (PBT) or 92/100 (IBT).

ISAE-SUPAERO students

At EPFL a level of C1 in English is highly recommended. Validation of this level by an official test is not required.

Once the program participants have met the graduation requirements of each of the partner institutions, they will receive two degrees:

  • Master of Science of EPFL
  • Ingénieur ISAE-SUPAERO degree

The award of the EPFL Master of Science degree implies the award of the “Ingénieur ISAE-SUPAERO” degree and vice versa.
