Double degree EPFL-Polytechnique Paris

EPFL students

This program is open to all EPFL sections apart from Architecture. It is targeted at students who have successfully completed the first two years of their Bachelor’s degree and who meet the following conditions:

  • Successful completion of the entrance exam intended for international students (International Examinations, FUI)
  • Overall average of at least 5,0/6 in the propaedeutic cycle

Students of French nationality registered at EPFL should refer to the specific information below (Program’s structure).

L’X students

This program is open to students who have successfully completed their 3rd year of the cycle polytechnicien.

EPFL students

EPFL students must successfully complete the entrance exam intended for international students (International Examinations, FUI). The exam takes place in the autumn, during the 5th semester of the Bachelor’s degree.

Registration process to l’X International Examinations (FUI)

L’X students

L’X students must adopt the following steps:

  • Choose a Master’s study program among those offered at EPFL, with the exception of Architecture
  • Register with the Outgoing Students Mobility managers at l’X and be pre-selected by their home institution
  • Submit an application to EPFL

EPFL students

  • Five semesters at Bachelor’s level at EPFL
  • One non-credited introduction semester at l’X (methodology course in mathematics and physics) 
  • One year at l’X (78 ECTS, corresponding to the last year of the Bachelor’s degree)
  • One year of Master’s degree courses at l’X (75 ECTS of Master’s degree scientific courses)
  • The whole Master’s degree program at EPFL (including the industry internship and the Master’s thesis)

French students enrolled at EPFL

French students enrolled at EPFL must complete their Bachelor’s degree (three years of study), take the entrance examination for students of French nationality and complete one year of civilian or military service which is mandatory and an integral part of the curriculum (three years in total at l’X). After that, the students complete the whole Master’s degree study program at EPFL (including the industry internship and the Master’s thesis).

L’X students

  • Two to four years of university education (classes préparatoires, licence française or international Bachelor)
  • Admission to the cycle polytechnicien at l’X following a competitive selection process
  • 1st year of the cycle polytechnicien at l’X. Depending on the study program, civilian or military internship (six to seven months) or preparatory semester (linguistic preparation and scientific methods, three months for French-speaking students, seven months for non-French-speaking students). Scientific common core (four months, 25 ECTS)
  • 2nd year of the cycle polytechnicien at l’X: 78 ECTS (corresponding to the last year of the Bachelor’s degree)
  • 3rd year of the cycle polytechnicien at l’X: 75 ECTS of Master’s degree scientific courses at l’X
  • The whole Master’s degree program at EPFL (including the industry internship and the Master’s thesis)

EPFL

At EPFL, most courses are taught in English at Master’s level, but some study programs offer a few courses in French.

L’X

At l’X, most courses are taught in French.

EPFL students receive the Bachelor’s degree from EPFL at the end of the two years spent at l’X.

Students from both institutions who have successfully completed the entire double degree program (Bachelor’s and Master’s level) receive the Diplôme d’ingénieur from l’X and the Master’s degree from EPFL.

EPFL students

EPFL students are exempt from registration fees to the entrance exam at l’X. However, they must pay the equipment and uniform costs at l’X.
