Double degree EPFL-ENS Lyon | Biotechnology and chemical engineering

EPFL students

The candidates must hold an EPFL Bachelor’s degree with an overall average of at least 5,0/6.

ENS de Lyon students

The candidates must have obtained the Licence de Chimie, parcours Sciences de la Matière at ENS de Lyon. They must have spent an exchange semester at EPFL during the 2nd semester of M1 Sciences de la Matière and validated the related ECTS credits (courses and internship).

EPFL students

By the time of application, the candidates must already have been admitted to the Master’s degree in Chemical engineering and biotechnology at EPFL.

ENS de Lyon students

By the time of application, the candidates must already have been admitted to the Master’s degree in Sciences de la Matière, parcours Science et Innovation at ENS de Lyon. They must submit their application before September 15 (n-1).

EPFL students

  • Two semesters of Master’s degree at EPFL: courses (60 ECTS)
  • Two semesters of Master’s degree at ENS de Lyon: courses and internship (60 ECTS)
  • One semester of Master’s degree at ENS de Lyon: advanced courses (30 ECTS)
  • One semester of Master’s thesis in a lab supervised by a professor or a senior scientist of EPFL, as well as a teaching tutor of ENS de Lyon (30 ECTS)

ENS de Lyon students

  • One semester of Master’s degree at ENS de Lyon: internship (30 ECTS)
  • One exchange semester at EPFL: Bachelor’s degree courses and internship (30 ECTS)
  • Two semesters of Master’s degree at EPFL: courses (60 ECTS)
  • One semester of Master’s degree at ENS de Lyon: courses (30 ECTS)
  • One semester of Master’s thesis in a lab supervised by a professor or a senior scientist of EPFL, as well as a teaching tutor of ENS de Lyon (30 ECTS)

A level of at least B2 in English and French is strongly recommended. The courses of the double degree program are mostly taught in English.

This program is a dual curriculum over a three-year period leading to a double Master’s degree:

  • Master’s degree in Chemical engineering and biotechnology from EPFL (accredited by the Commission française des titres d’ingénieur)
  • Master’s degree in Sciences de la Matière, parcours Science et Innovation from ENS de Lyon
