Employment conditions

  • Salary: We offer competitive salaries in application of the ETH domain salary system, which takes into account the job profiles, competencies and years of experience. A salary grid representing 15 echelons to cover scientific, support and management positions is applicable while a specific salary system is in place for our 3,500 researchers.
  • Occupational Pension: Our employees are members of the Federal pension scheme, PUBLICA. We offer supra-obligatory pension plans with 64 % employer/36 % employee contribution for saving and risk (affiliation if contract > 3 months and annualised salary > CHF 22,050.00). As far as Accident Insurance is concerned, our employees are covered by the SUVA.
  • Working hours: Based on a five-day week, the working week is 41 hours for full time employees. Work schedules are arranged by agreement between superiors and staff members based on the confidence principle and taking into account the requirements of the service involved. The principle of flexible working hours has been adopted at EPFL. Depending on requirements or the particular nature of the activities, core time periods may be defined.
  • Vacation:  In addition to public holidays, staff members are eligible to five to six weeks of vacation per year based on age.
  • Child and family allowances: EPFL offers child and education allowances. Employees receive a cantonal allocation plus a supplement from EPFL.
  • On-campus day care:  We have daycares located on campus that welcome in priority children of people with a valid work contract or studying at EPFL. For more information
