EPFL insures its staff members against both occupational and non-occupational accidents through SUVA, in accordance with Swiss legislation. Additionally, EPFL provides an international assistance program for business travel.
Who is covered?
- EPFL staff members (including PhD students, postdocs, and paid interns) with a contract of more than 8 hours per week (20%)
What the insurance covers
- Occupational accidents: Occurring at the workplace or during work-related travel
- Non-occupational accidents: Occurring outside of work (e.g., sports, leisure activities)
Steps to Take in Case of an Accident
- Consult a doctor promptly
- Inform your supervisor (see also Online Help Absence Management)
- Complete the accident report form (PDF)
- Send the form to: [email protected]
- Record the absence in the absence management platform
- Provide a medical certificate starting from the 4th day of incapacity
Coverage and Benefits
SUVA covers:
- Medical expenses (hospitalization, treatment, medication)
- Daily allowances in case of work incapacity
- Disability or survivors’ pension in case of serious consequences or death
- Professional reintegration measures
In the case of unpaid leave longer than one month, the employee must take out individual accident insurance at their own expense.
Travel Abroad
During business trips abroad:
- SUVA coverage remains valid.
- It is recommended to check local conditions and take out additional insurance if necessary (e.g., repatriation, uncovered medical care).
- EPFL provides an international assistance program for business travel.
