Request a Jabber softphone

Activation of a new personal telephone line and the Jabber feature for Windows, Mac, Android, iPad or iPhone, or a softphone for Linux (SIP or XMPP client). Only one model of headset and webcam are provided by the UC team.

Request Softphone accessories

To request a headset and / or a webcam for softphone in exchange for your desk phone or your old accessories. Request submitted for internal approval.

  1. If you have any problem with the installation, the configuration or the use of the Jabber softphone, please contact first your local IT support.
  2. If you experience a problem using your Jabber softphone, we suggest you to read our FAQ.
  3. If you can not find the solution to your problem, contact 1234 and open an incident.

The UC team does not offer support for the solutions below:

  • Cisco Jabber for Android
  • Cisco Jabber for iPhone/iPad
  • Softphone for Linux
  • The UC team provides accessories (headset and webcam) when activating a softphone.
  • If you want models other than those proposed, please contact the responsible of your unit.
  • The accessories must be returned to the secretariat of your unit or the Service Desk of the VPSI when you leave.

Video Bit Rates for Cisco Jabber Desktop Client:

  • The following video bit rates (with g.711 audio) apply to Cisco Jabber for Windows and Cisco Jabber for Mac. This table does not list all possible resolutions.

     Notes:

    • EPFL Jabber are configured to use the G.722 audio codec (54/62 kbit / sec) by default with the VoIP phones, the audio Codec G.711 (80 kbit / second) is used for all other calls (PSTN).
    • The VPN increases the size of transmitted packets, increasing the consumption of bandwidth. Reminder Cisco Jabber does not require the VPN to operate outside of the EPFL.

The configuration files can be found in the following two directories:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Cisco\Unified Communications\
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Cisco\Unified Communications\

The easiest way to delete all the user’s configurations (chat, personal contacts, call history, etc.) is to stop Jabberand delete the two “Unified Communications” folders.
The next time you start Jabber, the application will prompt you for your connection details (username and password).

  •  Deployment installation by GPO:

A GPO is available to deploy Jabber automatically on your Windows machines.
