International outreach

International outreach is part of EPFL’s DNA in many aspects such as its diverse community or its internationally recognized research. The School also engages in the international education community to build strategic partnerships, strengthen its international network and share best practices with other universities.

In this context, the Education Outreach Department cultivates privileged ties with a network of renowned universities, with which it develops and negotiates numerous partnerships. With over 150 international exchange and double degree agreements, EPFL offers its students a wide choice of study abroad destinations. Students from partner institutions also have the opportunity to integrate EPFL for an exchange, a project in a lab, or an internship. The School’s activities at international level are communicated through information and outreach events both on campus and at partner institutions, using dedicated promotional materials made available to the relevant audiences.

International outreach events

The Education Outreach Department and the Student Exchange Office are pleased to welcome 2nd year EPFL students to the annual Study Abroad Fair to learn everything about studying abroad. The next edition will take place in the fall 2024.

EPFL is part of the EuroTech Universities Alliance, a strategic alliance of six world-class universities active in science and technology:

These institutions co-organize an annual meeting, the EuroTech Partner Days, that takes place each year on a different EuroTech campus. This major event allows all six member institutions to invite their international partners to participate in one single event dedicated to them. This is a perfect opportunity for all the universities attending the event to network with other institutions, reflect collectively on international education and experience the host institution.

In the context of EPFL’s 50th anniversary in 2019, the Education Outreach Department hosted the 1st edition of this new event. Further editions were hosted by Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 2022 and by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in 2023. École polytechnique (l’X) will organize the 2024 EuroTech Partner Days.

The Education Outreach Department participates in many international fairs or Swiss Embassy events with EPFL representatives and/or EPFL exchange students.

These fairs offer an excellent opportunity to present EPFL to students from partner institutions who are interested in student exchanges, research internships, Master’s thesis or PhD studies at EPFL. They also offer a great opportunity to strengthen and deepen key partnerships.

The Education Outreach Department selectively participates in the main international education conferences in North America (NAFSA) and in Europe (EAIE) organized for professionals active in this field.

These events offer an efficient way to connect with various international partners all at once, developing and reinforcing international partnerships in education.

International student mobility

Studying abroad – coming to EPFL

EPFL encourages mobility among its students, whether in traditional exchanges or through the completion of a Master’s project in a partner institution. Each year, EPFL also enables students from partner institutions to complete an exchange semester or a project in a laboratory.
