Anil Tuncel

Simulation Neuroscience

Anil Tuncel is a Scientific Software Developer in the Cells team within the Simulation Neuroscience Division.

His work focuses on single-cell and circuit simulations.

Before joining Blue Brain, he worked as a Software Engineer at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering of the ETH Zürich. The focus of his work was to develop and implement statistical models for the analysis of single-cell transcriptomic and genomic data derived from tumours to improve cancer diagnostics and treatment selection.

He received his Master’s degree in Data Science and Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan. He graduated from two Bachelor’s programmes at Atilim University, with degrees in Software Engineering and Computer Engineering as valedictorian.

Anil was one of 50 Distinguished Students at Atilim University and the recipient of the Alessandro Volta Foundation Merit-Based Scholarship for Master’s studies. His hackathon prizes include, F10 Fintech Incubator and Accelerator Golden Ticket Winner at the SIX Hackathon, Zurich Switzerland.
Global Finalist and Local (Switzerland) Winner at the NASA Space Apps Challenge with 1375 projects from 75 countries (2018) and AI for Good Challenge Winner at the Lauzhack Hackathon of EPFL.

Outside of work, he plays the fretless lute (oud) as well as the guitar. He is an amateur chess player with a few official tournament experiences and he enjoys reading fantasy literature. He voluntarily supports the Python community by working on projects that advance the mission of the Python Software Foundation. Once in a year, he participates in the Global Game Jam to develop video games.
