Introduction
ZEISS is a global company world-wide known and recognized for high quality instrumentation and solutions for the semiconductor, automotive and mechanical engineering industries, biomedical research and medical technology, as well as eyeglass lenses, camera and cine lenses, binoculars and planetariums.
Since 2016, ZEISS and EPFL collaborate in the field of Imaging and Digital Engineering, Application and Systems (IDEAS). The IDEAS program aims to trigger and enable explorative research projects in fields of joint interest of EPFL and ZEISS. These research projects in fields defined by the EPFL-ZEISS scientific committee (SC) of IDEAS have a typically duration of one year and a budget of about 100 k€. In the past 6 years, 13 collaborative projects are funded and have been funded, respectively. The projects may be the seed for further joint research project financed either by ZEISS or by other funding.
An annual workshop provides the platform to explore the fit of active research fields at EPFL with innovation areas at ZEISS. Through scientific discussions, it is aimed to trigger proposals for research projects that are submitted in a subsequent call process.
Focus areas
Several areas of mutual interest between Zeiss and EPFL have been identified by the SC. The present workshop focuses on the areas described below. The application(s) addressed should be in one or several of the following areas: medical diagnosis and visualization, life cell imaging, advanced and smart manufacturing, and optical metrology and inspection.

The SC of IDEAS and the VP Innovation at EPFL invite to the IDEAS Workshop 2022 that will take place in room BM 5202, EPFL Campus, Lausanne, on May 2nd and 3rd. The following preliminary program is planned:
