EPFL international initiatives and projects

EPFL is leading and participating in many international projects. The International Affairs support and encourages initiatives such as:

The EXAF centre  aims to foster excellent scientific research throughout the African continent, by developing collaborations between EPFL and African researchers.

The EXAF centre is managing many programmes focusing on different topics (research, PhDs, online courses, urban development, etc.).

EPFL has has a branch in the United Arab Emirates, in Ras Al Khaimah (EPFL Middle East). It brings together cutting-edge research projects and higher education programmes in the fields of energy and sustainability.

At EPFL the Transnational Red Sea Centre is a scientific organisation, which studies and protects the unique coral reef of the Red Sea.

The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) is a giant radio telescope project deployed at two sites in Australia and South Africa. EPFL is participating in this project and is part of the Square Kilometre Array Organisation (SKAO). As such, our school coordinates the Swiss contributions to this project on behalf of the Swiss academic community.

The pilot programme for the promotion of tenure-tracks in Croatia was officially launched in May 2018. It was established by EPFL, the Swiss Department for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the Croatian Ministry for Science, the Croatian Ministry for Regional Development and the Croatian Science Foundation.

The aim of this programme is to give the opportunity to conduct a research programme in Croatia to young researchers.
