EPFL in European programmes

European programmes are of key importance to EPFL, both for research activities and student exchanges. The participation of the School in diverse European programmes is therefore very important.

Swiss-European Mobility programme (SEMP)

Since Switzerland doesn’t participate in the ERASMUS+ programme, our country developed its own programme for student exchanges.

Horizon 2020

Horizon 2020 was the 8th research framework programme of the European Union. Horizon 2020 covered the 2014-2020 period.

Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe is the main funding programme of the EU for research and innovation. The Horizon 2020 budget is approximately 100  billions euros and it will cover the 2021 – 2027 period. The first call for proposals has been launched in 2021.

Digital Europe

The Swiss Federal Council is discussing the full participation of Switzerland in this innovative programme.

Euratom

The Horizon 2020 programme includes the European Atomic Energy Community, for research in the fusion topic. At EPFL, the Swiss Plasma Center is deeply involved in Euratom.
