Digital Education: a priority for universities throughout Africa
As part of the joint initiative of EPFL and UM6P, forty-four universities from 19 African countries, representing all the subregions of the continent, applied for the creation of Centres of Competence in Digital Education (C-CoDE). The interest and institutional commitment of these universities emphasise the importance of integrating or strengthening digital education in their teaching processes.
EPFL and UM6P join efforts to transform digital education in Africa
EPFL and UM6P joined forces to help mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on tertiary education in Africa and prepare for ‘the new normal’. Under the ‘Excellence in Africa’ initiative, they provided free digital education resources and training in online pedagogy to university professors from 34 institutions based in 12 countries. This emergency-driven initiative is a precursor for the Digital Education pillar of Excellence in Africa.

With around half its population under 20 years old and the increasing use of electronic devices, Africa is ideally poised to benefit from the emergence of digital education and to rapidly scale up access to quality education to talented and motivated students.
