Dr Johan Rochel has been working as a scientific collaborator at the CDH since 2021. As a lawyer and ethicist, he is interested in normative issues in the context of technology.

His research focuses on international technology law, with a strong component of legal philosophy and applied ethics. His particular interests are in the international law of AI, robotics and more generally of innovation.

At the teaching level, Johan Rochel teaches the law and ethics of artificial intelligence in the SHS program, as well as internet law at the University of Lausanne. He also develops pedagogical resources for teaching ethics in the engineering sciences.
In 2022, an introduction to the law and ethics of robotics was published by EPFL Press: “Les robots parmi nous: éthique, droit, société”.
