Sample Submission

Interested in submitting samples?

1 – Contact the proteomics core facility

Due to technical considerations related to mass spectrometry-based proteomics, certain precautions should be taken during sample preparation. According to your needs, we can advise you on the best way to prepare your samples.

If you have performed the same analysis before with us, please proceed directly to Step 2

 2 – Prepare your samples

Tips on sample preparation and protein extraction can be found here. After extracting the proteins perform the following quality control steps (when applicable):

  • Total protein assay to determine the protein amount

For the majority of projects, it is critical to know the provided amount in order to optimally analyze the samples. Please take note on the compatibility of different total proteins assays according to the buffer composition.

  • Protein integrity quality control (especially relevant for complex samples ex. cell lysates)

Using a small aliquot of your sample (~5%) separate and visualize the proteins via SDS-PAGE and Coomassie staining. Defined protein bands spread across the entire length of the gel indicate that most proteins are intact. In contrast, the presence of an intense, diffuse band at the lower edge of the gel indicates poor quality lysates that contain high amounts of degraded proteins.

3 – Perform your submission online through PCFpro

PCFpro is all-in-one solution where you can submit the project, monitor the status, see the billing info but also get access to the results in live time.
