Waste

Work within laboratories can lead to the production of waste, sometimes classified as special waste. Responsible and sustainable research involves that wastes and contaminated materials are managed in an environmentally friendly manner. Special waste is recovered and packaged according to the hazard types and mainly includes the following categories or combinations thereof:

In Switzerland, producers are responsible for their waste. At EPFL, the local waste responsible person or the assigned chemistry stores will take over the waste, only if it is stable, properly packaged and labelled by the producer.

The most important information and safety measures to be aware of when managing the special waste at EPFL are available in the safety booklet: “What should I know? Management of special wastes at EPFL”.
