EPFL recognizes that some students may be suffering financial hardship due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the decision to extend the spring 2020 semester. The School is offering emergency support through its social commission scholarship program.

Emergency support

EPFL is making emergency support available to students facing demonstrable financial hardship for reasons related exclusively to the Covid-19 pandemic (loss of income and/or unforeseen costs).

To apply, you will need to complete the relevant form and supply the requested supporting documents. The social commission will review applications on a rolling basis.

Who can apply?CMS, Bachelor, MAN, Master, Exchange students (registered at EPFL in spring semester 2020)
What are the eligibility criteria?The support is available to students facing demonstrable financial hardship for reasons related exclusively to the Covid-19 pandemic (loss of income and/or unforeseen costs)
How long does the support last?MAN: From the award date until 30.06.2020
Bachelor, Master: From the award date until 31.08.2020
When do I need to apply?You can apply at any time
When will I receive my money?As soon as your application is approved

These scholarships will be automatically extended as following:

  • MAN: until 30.06.2020
  • Bachelor, Master: until 31.08.2020

Affected students have received an email in early May.


Academic year 2020-2021

Directive Polylex 2.10.2 defines the grant awarding process. EPFL is dedicated to supporting students, in particular when their financial situation makes it difficult for them to complete their studies.

These scholarships are awarded following a change in the social, family and/or economic situation of the potential grantee.

Who can apply?Students who are Swiss or have a C permit can apply starting their first year of studies
International students can apply starting their second year of studies (with the exception of Master’s students who joined EPFL in 02.2020)

These scholarships are for Swiss or foreign students whose parents are living in Switzerland. Please find the different adresses where to apply on this page.

Who can apply?This foundation offers grants to Master students in the Architecture or Civil Engineering programmes. Only students who succesfully passed their first year at EPFL are eligible.
Priority will be given to Swiss or Italian nationals.

Who can apply?This fund provides financial support to Master students from a developing country. Only students who succesfully passed their first year at EPFL are eligible.

Scholarship renewal request form

This foundation grants scholarships to students and research fellows with the highest academic merits but without the required financial resources to study at top-ranked universities in the United-States or in United Kingdom.

  • (pre)-admission at the foreign university
  • registration at EPFL (minimum during the last 3 years)
  • resident in Switzerland for the last 5 years (for tax reasons)
Applications

Students need to schedule an appointment with the social department at the latest two weeks before the deadline in order to assess their economic situation. Contact: Student desk

Students who apply for a scholarship will need to provide the following documents.

This foundation provides grants to bachelor and master students whose nationality is :

  • Swiss (native from the French part): for an exchange or a master project abroad (min 1 semester)
  • Iranian: have successfully passed their first year at EPFL

Applications

Deadline: 1st March and 1st October (each year)

Renewal

Eligibility for a second year is not automatic. Students can ask for renewal by using this form.

This foundation offers scholarships to Swiss or French students, which are disabled due to an illness or an accident and who need help to complete their studies.

Students need to schedule an appointment with the social department. Contact: Student desk

Students whose section recommend participating in study trips, with an educational purpose can ask for financial support.

Exchange students are not entitled to it.

Lump sum of CHF 300.- (once during the course of study)

After the study trip, the application for financial assistance must be sent to [email protected]. The following documents (in one pdf) must be provided:

Social scholarship holders (EPFL, cantonal, private, foreign)
Non-scholarship holders
  • Application form for financial assistance (in french only)
  • EPFL registration certificate
  • Tax return of the parents, the applicants, spouse, guarantor  (otherwise: salary statements, annuities)
  • Official attestation signed by your section proving your participation in the study trip

This foundation supports excellent students who due to their personality, creativity and intellectual skills are in a position to contribute to science, business, culture and politics.

In exchange, beneficiaries are expected to sponsor a student when they are in a position to do so.
