Support scholarships

Below is a non-exhaustive list of financial supports for students.

Please note that EPFL does not issue scholarships to foreign students to start their studies. Therefore it is important to prepare a budget (more information on this page).

According to the Directive Polylex 2.10.2 concerning the awarding of grants, EPFL is dedicated to supporting students, in particular when their financial situation makes it difficult for them to complete their studies.

These scholarships are subject to defined criteria and awarded following a change in social, family and/or economic situation.

These scholarships do not represent a student’s right.

First request
  • Swiss students or residents: as of the first year at EPFL.
  • Foreigner students: to have succeeded the first year at EPFL. The requested average is 4.5.

Deadlines
  • For automn semester: 15 May (each year)
  • For spring semester: 15 December (each year)
Renewal

If this is still justified, the scholarship can be renewed by using this form.

These scholarships are for Swiss or foreign students whose parents are living in Switzerland.

Scholarship offices function differently from one canton to another (cantonal scholarship offices). The application should be sent to the canton of parents’ tax domicile.

This foundation offers grants to Master students in the Architecture or Civil Engineering programmes. Students need to have succeeded the first year at EPFL.

Preference will be given to Swiss or Italian nationals.

This fund provides financial support to Master students from a developing country. Students must have succeeded their first year at EPFL.

This foundation grants scholarships to students and research fellows with the highest academic merits but without the required financial resources to study at top-ranked universities in the United-States or in United Kingdom.

Conditions
  • (pre)-admission at the foreign university
  • registration at EPFL (minimum during the 3 last years)
  • resident in Switzerland during the last 5 years (for tax reason)
Applications

This foundation provides grants to bachelor and master students whose nationality is :

  • Swiss (native from the French part): for an exchange or a master project abroad (min 1 semester)
  • Iranian: have succeeded the first year a EPFL

Applications

Deadline: 1st March and 1st October (each year)

Renewal

If this is still justified, the scholarship can be renewed by using this form.

This foundation offers scholarships to Swiss or French students, which are disabled due to an illness or an accident and who need help to complete their studies.

Please ask for an appointment with the social department. Contact: Student desk

Students whose section recommend participating in study trips, with educational objective, can ask for financial support.

Exchange students are not entitled to it.

The application for financial assistance must be sent to the Student Desk after the study trip.

Social scholarship holders (EPFL, cantonal, private, foreign)

Lump sum of CHF 300.- (once during the course of study)

Non-scholarship holders
  • Application form for financial assistance (in french only)
  • EPFL registration certificate
  • Tax return of the parents, the applicants, spouse, guarantor  (otherwise: salary statements, annuities)
  • Official attestation signed by your section proving your participation in the study trip

Lump sum of CHF 300.- allocated on the basis of a financial need.

This foundation supports excellent students who due to their personality, creativity and intellectual skills are in a position to contribute to science, business, culture and politics.

The foundation offers learning opportunities complementary to studies, an individual mentoring and guidance scheme as well as financial support.

This association supports deserving students who could no attend tertiary education in Switzerland. The support is financial (honor loan) and practical (coaching).

In exchange, beneficiaries are expected to sponsor a student when they are in a position to do so.

This foundation supports international scientific exchanges by providing scholarships to students who want to pursue their studies abroad.
