Need-based scholarships

This section contains information about financial support for students. The list is non-exhaustive.

EPFL does not offer scholarships to foreign students during their first year of study. Therefore it is important to plan ahead and create a realistic budget (more information on this page).

Directive Polylex 2.10.2 defines the grant awarding process. EPFL is dedicated to supporting students, in particular when their financial situation makes it difficult for them to complete their studies.

These scholarships are awarded following a change in the social, family and/or economic situation of the potential grantee.

Students have no inherent right to these scholarship that are offered voluntarily by the EPFL.

First possible application
  • Swiss students or residents: are eligible starting from the first year at EPFL.
  • Foreign students: are eligible if they have passed the first year at EPFL with a minimum average of 4.5.

Students who apply for a scholarship will need to provide the following documents.

Deadlines
  • Automn semester: 15 May (each year)
  • Spring semester: 15 December (each year)
Renewal

Eligibility for a second year is not automatic. Students can ask for renewal by using this form.

These scholarships are for Swiss or foreign students whose parents are living in Switzerland.

Students need to schedule an appointment with the social department at the latest two weeks before the deadline in order to assess their economic situation. Contact: Student desk

This foundation offers grants to Master students in the Architecture or Civil Engineering programmes. Only students who succesfully passed their first year at EPFL are eligible.

Priority will be given to Swiss or Italian nationals.

Students who apply for a scholarship will need to provide the following documents.

This fund provides financial support to Master students from a developing country. Only students who succesfully passed their first year at EPFL are eligible.

Students who apply for a scholarship will need to provide the following documents.

This foundation grants scholarships to students and research fellows with the highest academic merits but without the required financial resources to study at top-ranked universities in the United-States or in United Kingdom.

Applications

Students who apply for a scholarship will need to provide the following documents.

This foundation provides grants to bachelor and master students whose nationality is :

  • Swiss (native from the French part): for an exchange or a master project abroad (min 1 semester)
  • Iranian: have successfully passed their first year at EPFL

Applications

Deadline: 1st March and 1st October (each year)

Students who apply for a scholarship will need to provide the following documents.

Renewal

Eligibility for a second year is not automatic. Students can ask for renewal by using this form.

This foundation offers scholarships to Swiss or French students, which are disabled due to an illness or an accident and who need help to complete their studies.

Students need to schedule an appointment with the social department. Contact: Student desk

Students whose section recommend participating in study trips, with an educational purpose can ask for financial support.

Exchange students are not entitled to it.

The application for financial assistance must be sent to the Student Desk after the study trip.

Social scholarship holders (EPFL, cantonal, private, foreign)

Lump sum of CHF 300.- (once during the course of study)

Non-scholarship holders
  • Application form for financial assistance (in french only)
  • EPFL registration certificate
  • Tax return of the parents, the applicants, spouse, guarantor  (otherwise: salary statements, annuities)
  • Official attestation signed by your section proving your participation in the study trip

Lump sum of CHF 300.- allocated on the basis of a financial need.

This foundation supports excellent students who due to their personality, creativity and intellectual skills are in a position to contribute to science, business, culture and politics.

This association supports deserving students who could no attend tertiary education in Switzerland. The support is financial (honor loan) and practical (coaching).

In exchange, beneficiaries are expected to sponsor a student when they are in a position to do so.
