Videoconferencing (VC)

EPFL is equipped with a number of video-conference (VC) systems on its various campus sites (e.g. Lausanne, Neuchatel, Geneva, Sion). The more recent systems are part of the EPFL Unified Communications platform and are therefore compatible with the Cisco IP video telephones recently installed at EPFL and the pre-existing Polycom-equipped rooms.

Recently-installed VC systems enable the possibility for the following interactions with remote sites and external parties:

  • discussions between individuals and groups
  • presentations (e.g. seminar, workshop, thesis defence, interview)
  • document and desktop sharing (shared document appears on the second screen)
  • high-resolution (1080p) image stream
  • user-controlled optimal layout of information on two large screens

While the VC needs of individuals or small groups can be satisfied by small mobile systems (e.g. laptop with suitable software), for larger meetings and seminars a dedicated VC room and device (codec) is required.
