Cinéac

The cinéac was a cinema in Lausanne, located in the St-François district, which was active from 1938 to 1969. This cinema produced and broadcasted in particular reports concerning local and international news. More than 117 broadcasts on Lausanne have already been digitized and put online at the initiative of the City of Lausanne. In the near future, they could be the subject of automatic speech-to-text transcription, which would allow scholars to conduct semantic analyses about them.

In addition, a group of students from the course Digital Urban History: Lausanne Time Machine developed throughout the academic year 2020-2021, a project aiming at crossing the audiovisual sources of the Cinéac with press articles of the same period. Their interactive interface allows to discover Lausanne between 1930 and 1975 and to immerse yourself in historical events, such as the 1846 Wood Festival, the 1864 National Exhibition, or the 80th birthday of General Guisan.
