EPFL is the second largest consumer in the canton of Vaud due to its many technological components. The School is committed to promoting and purchasing electricity from renewable sources. Since January 2012, all the electricity purchased has come from local hydroelectric plants (French-speaking Switzerland). EPFL’s energy mix is composed of 97% hydraulic electricity and 3% photovoltaic electricity produced by the Parc solaire Romande Energie – EPFL.

In 2015, all outdoor lighting was equipped with LED light sources, saving more than 100,000 kWh (-55%). Interior lighting will follow as the renovations progress.
