Development of a management tool to monitor the sustainability of an urban system: the case of the City of Fribourg
Quentin Chiche and Marine Manche

Dealing with a topical issue at the international, national and local levels, the author shows through the depth and rigour of her analyses the difficulty of implementing carbon offset projects in Switzerland. This work thus contributes not only to a better orientation of EPFL's climate policy, but also to a better understanding of the limits of the offset system as such.

Meticulous and relevant estimation of the carbon footprint of the average consumer in Switzerland and the potential of about 50 consumption options to reduce this footprint.

By developing a tool for evaluating and monitoring sustainability in the city of Fribourg, this work proposes an interesting methodology for the collaborative selection of indicators and an ingenious system for visualising the progress made. Allowing to apprehend in a systemic way the multiple dimensions of sustainability, the tool thus developed could easily be applied and adapted to other contexts
