SPINNING STAR

SPINNING STAR (precession diffraction)

By using the SPINNING STAR to precess the electron beam around the zone axis of a crystal, dynamical scattering that distorts on-axis SAD patterns is much reduced. This creates a zone axis diffraction pattern much closer to that expected from ideal kinematical scattering, with diffraction spot intensities that represent the true cystal symmetry. The patterns are also insensitive to problems of thickness and sample misorientation.
