IBOIS regularly offers master projects or semester projects thematics for EPFL students. As IBOIS research are intersectoral, we welcome students from different disciplines.
Those projects offer a great opportunity for students to experience the research world and work with researchers and experts in timber engineering, wood-wood connections, digital parametrization, etc. Modalities for a semester project at IBOIS have to be discussed and approved by both parties, before the beginning of the semester.
ENAC semester project Autumn 2025: Hygrometric deformation characterization of roundwood connections
In this ENAC semester project, we propose to a master student with Python programming skills and a certain knowledge in FEM to develop a small open source script that simulates the shrinkage (and related stresses) in roundwood timber joinery in 2D, and to evaluate the model against samples of wood that will be dried in parallel during the semester.
