Ph.D. Student Positions
Students intending to do their PhD at the EPFL must first be admitted to one of the EPFL doctoral schools. Our lab, the LMTS, is affiliated with the Microsystems and Microelectronics (EPFL-EDMI), the Robotics, Control, and Intelligent Systems (EPFL-EDRS), and the Electrical Engineering doctoral schools (EPFL-EDEE).
2 PhD student positions in fiber-format soft actuators at EPFL-LMTS
- The EPFL Soft Transducers Laboratory (lmts.epfl.ch) invites applications for two PhD students to develop fiber-format soft actuators in the context of an MSCA Doctoral Network.
The goal is to develop flexible mm-diameter fibers, that expand or shrink upon electrical command, and can block large forces. The fibers will be woven into active textiles to create soft exoskeletons.
Candidates must hold a MEng (Electrical or Mechanical engineering, Material Science or similar) or an MSc (e.g., in Physics), and have a strong track record of innovation. The focus of the position is on developing novel fiber architectures and associated manufacturing techniques that enable meter long devices.
Start date is October 2022 or as agreed. The position will stay open until a suitable candidate is found. In addition to research, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to supervise master students and participate in teaching and fundraising activities. Work location will be in Neuchatel, Switzerland. The project includes partners in 6 European countries, Australia, and Japan.
Applicants should send an email to [email protected] with a CV, cover letter, names and contacts of three reference persons, and full publication list. Selected applicants will be contacted within 2 weeks for an interview.
Postdoc Positions at EPFL-LMTS
We are always interested in exceptional postdoctoral researchers in the field of miniaturized Elastomer Transducers and Smart Materials. Ideally you have a PhD in Experimental Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or Materials Science.
Swiss Civil Service positions (“civiliste”)
Nous sommes reconnus en tant qu’établissement d’affectation pour le service civil. Si vous avez un profil d’ingénieur ou de physicien, vous pouvez postuler en envoyant votre CV au Prof. Shea.
