Workshops catalogue for teachers


According to the skills you want to develop, the workshop are grouped into the following four modules :

** : The foundations of university education (part of Effective Teaching in Higher Education Programme described at the end of this page). 


 

1. Design of resources and learning activities

By attending this workshop(s) you should be able to Design teaching resources and activities that promote active learning for your students.

Departing from the central concepts of your teaching, this workshop guides you to define the learning outcomes for your course, choose learning activities and plan the assessment of learning.

The aim of this session is to help participants to identify different ways of flipping a class and start working on a draft for their course.

In this workshop you will learn how to apply the features of exercise sessions to helps students and give them a effective feedback.

Explore ways to design lab experiments that help students develop a scientific approach which is transferable to real world complexity.

This workshop will introduce the participants to designing project-based learning that maximizes student learning and minimizes potential difficulties, such as problems with workload, motivation, project failures.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will design a notebook-based interactive textbook or an exercise worksheet for a course or MOOC on the JupyterLab platform of EPFL (http://noto.epfl.ch).


 

2. Monitoring of learning activities

By attending this workshop(s) you should be able to Monitoring your teaching by promoting active learning by your students.

In this workshop you will learn how to structure your presentations and clear explanations for learning and boost student motivation.

The workshop presents the value of interactive learning to increase increse and maintaiin studdent engagement in learning. 

The aim of this online interactive session is to learn why introducing online polling can better support student learning and how to introduce it in your teaching. You will also experience the tool “PointSolutions” both as a student and as a teacher.

Present and experiment the online forum Ed Discussion: its features, possibilities, how to set it up and use it effectively in your course.

Using vocal techniques and tools relating to the voice and the body will help you reach your audience.


 

3. Assessment of learning

By attending this workshop(s) you should be able to Set up a valid and reliable evaluation system within your course.

The aims of this workshop is to help you build a valid and reliable evaluation system for your course.

This workshop will discuss some of the typical challenges of grading projects and teamwork, in order to ensure equal criteria and fair assessment of individuals’ contributions.


 

4. Promoting an integraded teaching

By attending this workshop(s) you should be able to Include the notions of inclusiveness and sustainability into your teaching.

Explore increasing inclusivity in your classroom using evidence-based frameworks and tools

This in person interactive workshop introduces participants to sustainability and how it can be integrated in their course.

This workshop explains the underlying mechanics of implicit bias and of stereotypes and it gives examples drawn from current research in STEM education. The workshop also presents instructional resources that support diversity, inclusion and equity (DIE) in the courses.

Effective Teaching in Higher Education Programme

This program is for teachers who want to value their teaching activities. To complete this programme, the teachers have to : 

  • Attending the four workshop labelled with the sign ** (The foundations of university education)
