LMS winter excursion at Les Mosses

On Wednesday, March 12th 2014, the members of the LMS group were given the chance to visit Les Mosses and practice themselves with winter leisure activities in the snowy slopes. The LMS students and staff members were divided into two teams. The first one enjoyed a cross-country ski journey while the second team put on their snow raquettes and wandered around the slopes and the forest for about two hours. It was a chance for everyone not only to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery and the snow, which was missing this winter from Lausanne, but also to practice these two-not so conventional- winter activities. And for some of them it was the very first time.

The beautiful slopes of Les Mosses and the fondue dinner.

Les Mosses is located in the municipality of Château-d’Oex in the canton of Vaud, almost an hour-long drive from Lausanne, close to La Lécherette and La Braye, popular among others for its cheese. After completing their journey, the few tired members of the LMS team along with the rest not-so-tired ones, gathered at a chalet and tasted fondue with the typical local cheese. The rendezvous with the Alpes Vaudoises was renewed for the next year.

The LMS director and Full Professor of Geoengineering and CO2 Storage in ENAC, EPFL, Lyesse Laloui, guided the raquette journey around the slopes of Les Mosses.

No photo from the cross-country skiers has been provided by the time these lines were typed. This rises the concerns that there was always someone falling in the background.
