Summary:

After a short presentation about knowledge flows, Frank Leistner Chief Knowledge Officer, Global Professional Services at SAS (www.masterknowledgeflow.ch) drove a fast paced business simulation. He showed how barriers to knowledge flow form imperceptibly as teams come together to deliver products and services.
In this simulation, we asked all the teams to create the perfect refrigerator, with no further requirements on what we meant by perfect, or by refrigerator. In the beginning, we observed that the knowledge flow between teams was non existent because each team had to form its specific identity and define the features of the perfect refrigerator. Subsequent knowledge flows were hampered by these team boundaries, even though the flows were encouraged.
Management initiatives,  designed to foster knowledge flows between teams, often have strong limitations.
The evening brought a wealth of creative ideas and concepts. What emerged was the importance of integrating and opening communication opportunities for colleagues.
Thank you Frank and all the participants.
