Summary: 13th Knowledge Management Round Table in Lausanne – June 17 2010

Subject: Experiment creating the knowledge required for designing a customer-oriented website

Presenters: Véronique Sikora and Gil Regev

Participants: 27

After a short introduction to the group activity, introduced by Véronique and Gil, the participants started working on building a website of their choice.

Some groups brainstormed about the information to be included on the website, while others started thinking about the design of the website. During this time Julien, Véronique and Gil, acting as customers and owners, interrupted the groups to offer information and judged the solutions. They offered information about their organization or about what types of information the groups should think about when building the website. They were not always welcomed by the groups who had a tendency to brush them off so as to not be interrupted.

After 20 minutes into their work, one person from each group took ownership of the project and the others changed tables. Now the owner of the project had to share the knowledge created thus far with the newcomers and the project continued.

The project finished with a presentation of the final product – the website designed for the customers. The outcome was brilliant as the group members realized that they had or had not listened to their customers and owners.
