Conditions
Admission to EPFL Master’s programmes is selective. Holders of an EPFL Bachelor’s degree are admitted directly, while other candidates must follow the whole application procedure, even those from ETHZ and USI, for whom admission is guaranteed. Graduates of universities of applied sciences must have a grade point average of 5.00 and complete a credit transfer programme.
All admitted candidates must complete a 12-month internship, including 6 consecutive months in the same office. Internships are taken into account after the Bachelor’s degree for universities of applied sciences and after the successful completion of the second year for others.
Online applications are accepted from mid-November to the end of March (mid-December for applicants requiring a visa) with a form, documents, portfolio and payment of fees. Decisions are made in April or June for a September start, preceded by an intensive French course.
- Formal aspects: Maximum A4 format, neat presentation, graphic quality, precision of drawing, and diversity of representation methods (drawing, mock-up, modelling).
- Types of work: Academic work and projects as a priority; variety of working scales from architectural objects to urban and territorial scales; project work and other disciplines if relevant; from conceptualisation to materiality.
- Positioning: Demonstrate personal commitment and reflection on current issues such as climate transition, sustainability, and the social role of the architect.
