Conditions
The Doctoral School (EDOC), a separate entity from EPFL Architecture, supervises doctoral students in more than 20 research programmes, offering an academic environment of excellence. The doctoral programme in Architecture and Sciences of the City (EDAR) combines architecture and social sciences through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates fundamental and applied research. Admission is competitive and requires online registration with a complete application, including letters of recommendation. Final acceptance depends on the subject, the thesis supervisor and funding. EDAR selects doctoral students based on their profiles and offers training that combines independent research, personalised supervision, and compulsory courses in the first year, followed by specialisation in architecture or the social sciences, with block weeks and seminars.
