MTE ALUMNI
Meet Romain Kirchhoff, MTE Graduate from 2017 & CEO at UZUFLY
Mon meilleur souvenir reste l’associatif.
Meet Günes Kocaman, MTE Graduate from 2024 & Junior Supply Planning Analyst at Johnson & Johnson.
With a background in Industrial Engineering and Finance at Sabanci University, Istanbul, Günes Kocaman joined the MTE program to bridge her technical expertise with strategic business skills. Today, she thrives at Johnson & Johnson in Switzerland, where she applies her strong analytical skills to drive operational excellence in supply chain management. Her journey highlights how the MTE program’s interdisciplinary approach and mentorship opportunities can shape a rewarding career in global industry.
Your journey to MTE: What did you study before joining the MTE program? What motivated you to pursue a Master’s in Management, Technology, and Entrepreneurship?
Before joining the MTE program, I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering with a minor in Finance. I was motivated to pursue the MTE program because of its unique combination of disciplines, high-quality education, and strong career and networking opportunities. It allowed me to strengthen my technical foundation and skills, particularly in supply chain and business strategy, aligning with my career goals.
What is your current role, and where are you working now?
I currently work as a Junior Supply Planning Analyst at Johnson & Johnson in Switzerland.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy applying my analytical skills to real business challenges and seeing the tangible impact of my work. My team’s strong focus on continuous operational improvement creates an environment that encourages learning while building a solid understanding of core business processes.
How did the MTE program help you secure this position or shape your career path?
The MTE program shaped my career through its broad and diverse curriculum, offering exposure to fields such as management, analytics, and finance. This flexibility allowed me to explore different interests through courses, projects, and industry-led cases, while gradually refining my focus toward supply chain management. Graduating from EPFL with a strong interdisciplinary foundation helped clarify my career direction.
What aspects of your current role align with what you learned during the MTE program?
The program emphasized continuous learning, teamwork, and managing multiple projects in parallel, which closely reflects my current responsibilities. Working on real-life business cases and
simulations prepared me well for the complexity and pace of the professional environment. Additionally, the supply chain–related courses provided a strong foundation that supports my day-to-day work.
Looking back, what’s one accomplishment from your time in the MTE program (a project, skill, or connection) that gave you a competitive edge in your field? How has it continued to benefit you professionally?
The mentor–mentee program was one of the most impactful experiences of my MTE journey. Through multiple networking events with MTE alumni and an assigned mentor, I gained direct exposure to industry perspectives. Working closely with my mentor on a strategy analysis project provided valuable hands-on experience. In addition, one-to-one meetings and discussions offered meaningful career guidance, helped shape my professional mindset early on, and created a strong sense of belonging to a supportive MTE community.
What advice would you give to someone starting the MTE program to help them make the most of their experience?
Be proactive in building connections from the very beginning of the program. Attend career events such as the EPFL Forum, actively engage in MTE initiatives and student organizations, and stay curious about different industries and companies. These early efforts often open doors and create opportunities in unexpected ways.
Meet Benoît Bégot, MTE graduate from 2019, Lead, Nature Positive Technology at World Economic Forum
After earning his Bachelor’s in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at EPFL, Benoît Bégot, joined the MTE program to complement his technical background with business and entrepreneurial skills. Today, he leads Nature Positive Transitions at the World Economic Forum, where he unites governments, businesses, and civil society to address the environmental impact of industries, particularly the growing footprint of the tech sector. His career journey exemplifies how the MTE program empowers graduates to bridge technology, strategy, and real-world execution to drive systemic change.
Your journey to MTE: What did you study before joining the MTE program? What motivated you to pursue the Master’s in Management, Technology, and Entrepreneurship?
I started my EPFL journey in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 2014. Back then, I was eager to understand the science that shapes our world and had a particular interest in the renewable energy space. Studying engineering felt like a practical way to turn that curiosity into solutions with impact. By the end of my Bachelor’s, I realized that technical skills weren’t always enough to tackle complex, systemic challenges and wanted to better understand “the bigger picture”. That’s why I chose MTE: it offered the bridge I was looking for, combining my engineering toolkit with business and entrepreneurial thinking. It also prepared me for more cross-functional industry roles where I could connect technology, strategy, and real-world execution.
What is your current role, and where are you working now? I spent the first few years of my career working in Tech and strategy consulting before taking my current role, delivering projects across multiple industries and geographies. It was a great way to learn how different sectors operate and reflect on where I could make a difference next. I now work at the World Economic Forum, where I lead Nature Positive Transitions, a strategic initiative within our Centre for Nature and Climate. By bringing together the private sector, governments and civil society, my team develops industry-specific guidance that helps business leaders understand, measure, and reduce their companies’ impacts and dependencies on Nature. Right now, my main focus is on the Technology sector and its growing Nature footprint, driven by the adoption of AI and the expansion of data centres and digital infrastructure.
What do you enjoy most about your job? I like this question as it is too often overlooked by graduates trying to build their career – particularly in an increasingly competitive market that can put a lot of pressure on performance. What I enjoy most is working on strategic topics that sit at the top of the agenda for organizations and society – whether that’s Technology, Innovation, Nature or Climate. The most satisfying part to me is bringing together diverse stakeholders across sectors to create the conditions for alignment and action. The convening power of the Forum and its ability to build bridges is truly unique, and that’s a big part of what makes the work sorewarding.
How did the MTE program help you secure this position or shape your career path? Looking back, I’m grateful for how the MTE program helped me become a more complete, industry ready version of myself as I entered the job market. It pushed me beyond the comfortable academic bubble and gave me practical exposure to how organizations operate. The people I met along the way (students, professors, mentors and Alumni) helped me clarify what I wanted in my career, what I didn’t, and this played a major role in shaping the choices that led me to where I am today.
What aspects of your current role align with what you learned during the MTE program? My role requires rigorous project management skills, international fluency and an ease at navigating complex environments. I think the MTE program prepared me well for these realities of the workplace, thanks to a curriculum that combines the right amount of theory, hands on experience and industry exposure.
Looking back, what’s one accomplishment from your time in the MTE program (a project, skill, or connection) that gave you a competitive edge in your field? How has it continued to benefit you professionally? While skills and project experience definitely helped me land roles, MTE’s real “secret weapon” for me was the people – especially the mentors and role models I found through the program. People that inspired me, gave me ideas, and fuelled my motivation to learn and grow. It also taught me not to underestimate how much a single conversation or encounter can shape a career. Professionally, that has stayed with me: I still seek out mentors, invest in relationships, and try to pay it forward by supporting others in the same way.
Advice for future students: What advice would you give to someone starting the MTE program to help them make the most of their experience?
Treat MTE as a safe space to experiment. Take on projects you wouldn’t normally choose, enrol in courses you’ve never heard of before, and engage in associations to try new things. The MTE community is genuinely supportive and people are here for a great time – just like you. Connect with others and of course, don’t be shy to reach out to Alumni!
