Courses

Roland Logé

Additive Manufacturing of Metals and Alloys (english)
This course is designed to cover a number of materials science aspects related to the field of additive manufacturing of metals and alloys, and to provide an in-depth review of corresponding fundamentals.

CCMX Winter School – Additive Manufacturing of Metals and the Material Science Behind It (english)
This course is designed to cover a series of important scientific aspects related to the field of additive manufacturing of metals and alloys and to provide an in-depth review of corresponding fundamentals. It features 9 modules consisting of presentations given by lecturers and the participants.

Deformation of materials (french)
Introduction to deformation mechanisms in inorganic materials: elasticity, plasticity and creep.

Mise en oeuvre des matériaux II (french)
Introduction to processing-structure-property relationships in polymers, ceramics and metals, providing the foundation for materials and process selection in the manufacturing of microengineering components.

Cyril Cayron

Crystallography of structural phase transformations (english)
The microstructure of many alloys and ceramics are constituted of very fine intricate domains (variants) created by diffusive or displacive phase transformations. The course introduces the crystallographic tools required to define, calculate and predict the different configurations of variants.

Phase transformations (french)
This course is an introduction to the thermodynamics and crystallography of liquid-solid and solid-solid phase transformations. It is essentially focused on metallic materials, but will occasionally make extensions to ceramics and rocks.

Eric Boillat

Introduction to additive manufacturing (english)
The state of the art in the domain of additive production processes (the part is built by material addition without use of a shape tool) will be presented. The main application/benefits/shortcomings of the common additive processes as well as technological and economical issues will be discussed.

Procédés de production (french)
Application windows of the main manufacturing process categories. Implementation of simple models describing the behavior of the main manufacturing processes. Basic understanding of the economic aspects of production processes. Manufacturing process selection methodology at an aggregated level.
