We develop novel imaging methods, and computational tools to advance our understanding of biology and physical chemistry. Biological problems include clustering of membrane proteins, protein aggregation, microbiome composition. We are also interested in the phenomena occurring at the water-2D material interfaces. Besides the plethora of optical microscopy techniques such as Single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM), Super-resolution optical fluctuation imaging (SOFI), and Quantitative phase imaging  (QPI), our laboratory uses high-end electron microscopes available at CIME facility. TEM is a crucial tool for the development and application of two types of nanoscale sensors such nanopores used for single-molecule characterization, and optically active defects in diamond or hexagonal boron nitride used for nanoscale mapping of physical quantities such as temperature, pH, electromagnetic field, ion concentration.
