ENAC-PhD position in Urban Sociology Laboratory (LASUR)

Doctoral candidate (48 months, 100%), starting date: Mai 2024

The successful applicant will be part of the SNSF project “the Responsible City” and based at the Social and Cultural Geography research group. This is a 48-months long collaborative project with researchers at UZH, EPFL, UniNE and ETH, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation SNSF and starting Mai 2024. By placing the concept of responsibility at the centre of the investigation, the project aims to understand how urban actors respond to and advance competing moral claims in socio-ecological controversies around housing and residential development in Zurich and Geneva.

We are looking for candidates with a research profile that aligns with the above research themes.

Your tasks

  • Development and implementation of a PhD-research project in the context of the SNSF project “the Responsible City”
  • Presentation of research results at conferences and in publications
  • Collaboration in teaching and administration of the research group

Your profile

  • Very good Master’s degree in human geography, sociology, urban studies, planning or a related social science discipline
  • Knowledge of qualitative methods of empirical social research (e.g. interviews, ethnographic methods, document analysis, etc.)
  • Very good written and spoken French, German and English skills
  • Ability to work independently and strong social skills for collaborative teamwork.
