The Master project lasts 17 weeks + 1 (holiday) at EPFL or 25 weeks + 1 (holiday) outside EPFL. It is placed under the responsibility of a Professor or a Senior Scientist (MER) affiliated to the physics section. Exceptions possible (list below).
Fall semester : Official dates: 7th September 2026 to 8th January 2027 or 5th March 2027 (25 weeks). If necessary, it is possible to move the start date between the 27th July and 21st December 2026.
Spring semester : Official dates: 22nd February to 25th June 2027 or 20th August 2027 (25 weeks)
If necessary, it is possible to move the start date between the 4th January and 31st May 2027.
If you wish to graduate in 2027, you must hand in your report by 10th September 2027 at the latest and the oral defence must take place before Wednesday 15th September 2027. If it takes place later, you will receive your ‘paper’ diploma in 2028, but you will be able to print a certificate stating that you have completed your Master’s studies.
Note that on the first day of your master project, you must not have more than 8 credits missing to be allowed to start it. In this case it will be a conditional Master project and you will have to take up to 10 credits maximum during your thesis. The workload will not be reduced ! If you have not reached the maximum duration of the master’s programme (6 semesters), you can also complete your master’s degree after the master’s project. The condition of a maximum of 8 missing credits remains.
Registration
Deadline to register on IS-Academia: Friday 18th September 2026 / Friday 5th March 2027
Register on IS-Academia, fill in the fields, save it and print the PDF registration form (icon next to “save”). Have the form signed by the professor responsible for your Master’s project and bring/send it to me. The title can be changed until the oral defense. The expert and the date of the oral examination will be determined at a later date.
