The Semaine ENAC in the Ossola Valleys is an exceptional place for intensive field research into the cultural aspects of building, from material extraction to construction details. The programme traces the transformation of the territory, from the extraction of building materials to the development of traditional techniques and their adaptation to modern industrial production.
Unlike laboratory-based or performance-oriented approaches, this course focuses on building in context, understood as a building culture that emerges from and interacts with the land.
Through site visits, practical workshops and joint restoration projects, students explore the interfaces between resources and landscapes, constructive knowledge and social practices.
The emphasis is on the critical evaluation of past and present planning and building culture (Baukultur) from the perspective of material use and sustainability. Each day is devoted to a specific thematic focus, promoting both technical skills and a nuanced understanding of the cultural and ecological dimensions of the site.
