Characterization of powders for the preparation of Ti / TiC composites by innovative sintering process

This semester project focuses on the densification of titanium powders. The problem to be solved is to understand powder densification kinetics. Different ways to answer it are possible and can be adapted given the student’s wishes.
An experimental analysis can be conducted using a classical sintering process: powder pre-compaction and heating series inside a conventional furnace to deduce the parameters controlling the sintering kinetics of a titanium powder. This process will happen under a protective atmosphere to avoid any titanium pollution, as this metal is really sensitive to contamination. If the project goes sufficiently fast, initial powder size and compaction will be analyzed.
