Students’ right to consult an exam paper or appeal a result
In accordance with Article 15 of the Ordinance on the Evaluation of Bachelor and Master Studies, all students are entitled to consult their corrected examination script, as soon as the results are available on IS-Academia, i.e. prior to the conference for ratification of examination results. To do this, they must submit a request to the teaching staff member, who is required to keep the corrected scripts for the time periods specified in the Internal directive concerning examinations at EPFL, Art. 10, par. 2
If a student approaches you directly to dispute an exam result, you are advised not to express a point of view, but direct them towards the official path, as indicated in article 20 of the Ordinance on study evaluation, which is printed at the back of every grade sheet.
Inform your students that it is up to them to apply for reassessment. To do so they must express their reasons and conclusions by writing to the following address.
EPFL – Service académique
BP – Station 16
1015 Lausanne
Should the student send the written appeal directly to you, please pass it on to the Registrar’s Office without delay (with its original envelope or indicating the date of receipt).
In case of doubt or need for further information, please contact the Direction of Education’s legal department.
