During the propaedeutic year a strong emphasis is placed on mathematics, alongside core courses in physics, advanced general chemistry, and computer science.
The French language barrier should not affect the first year of the Bachelor’s studies, as the program is designed to accommodate students regardless of their proficiency in French. For example, the Mathematics and Physics courses can also be taken in English or German.
The preparatory year (CMS) is a one-year program designed to help students strengthen their foundation in basic sciences before starting their Bachelor’s studies at EPFL. It offers students who do not meet the standard admission requirements the opportunity to enroll in one of EPFL’s Bachelor’s programs. It is also available, on a voluntary basis, to holders of a Swiss maturité gymnasiale.
