MJ-PCCD: MPEG and JPEG Point Cloud Compression Dataset

This dataset contains the data related to the experiment described in [1]. It is composed of a set of six point clouds selected from the JPEG Pleno Point Cloud dataset [2], which were compressed with three codecs: the MPEG standards G-PCC and V-PCC, and the newer learning-based JPEG Pleno standard. Moreover, different trade-offs between color and geometry quality were used to investigate how to maximize quality for a given bitrate for the three evaluated codecs. The visual quality of these stimuli was evaluated during subjective experiments conducted in a controlled environment according to two different protocols:

  • DSIS (Double Stimulus Impairment Scale), where the subjects visualize distorted and reference models side-by-side and attribute a quality score from 1 to 5;
  • PWC (Pairwise Comparison), where participants selected the point cloud with the highest quality among two distorted models.

More details on how the experiment was conducted, as well as the results of this study can be found in [1]. The dataset can be downloaded from the following FTP by using dedicated FTP clients, such as FileZilla or FireFTP (we recommend to use FileZilla):
