Since 2015, the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) has been involved in the Smart Living Lab (SLL), a cutting-edge, inter-disciplinary, inter-institutional platform project in Fribourg, which combines several lines of research related to construction technologies and involves a variety of players and institutions at local and national level.
Critical to the identity of SLL is the development of its own site, within a ‘Blue Factory’ at the centre of Fribourg set to become an important part of Switzerland’s National Innovation Park.
Currently under planning, the Smart Living Building at the Blue Factory provides cogent testimony of the challenges and the opportunities embedded in capital development that brings together public and private agencies, research and commerce, academia and industry.
