Practical info

You can download our information booklet here; it also contains tips on activities in Lausanne and the surrounding area. Below, we provide some essential information to get you started.

Venue

The school will be held on the EPFL Campus at the Bernoulli Center for Fundamental Studies.

Lodging

Speakers and participants who received accommodation support will be staying at the SwissTech Hotel (Rue Louis Favre 10b, 1024 Ecublens), inside the EPFL campus (approx. 8 minutes distance by foot from the Bernoulli center).

Transports

  • Reach Lausanne by plane: the closest international airport is Genève Aéroport. Once at the airport, Lausanne is reachable with a 45′ journey by train.
  • Reach Lausanne by train: timetables and tickets are available on the SBB website. You may find some taxis in front of the train station any time of the day and night. Some of them accept payments with a credit card.
The average price (depending on time and traffic) is CHF 35.- one way.
  • The closest underground line stop is “EPFL”, line M1. In general, the city is served by a very dense network of public transport (t-l). If you are staying in a hotel, ask for the Lausanne Transport Card, which entitles you to use public transport for free during your stay. Late at night or early in the morning, make use of the taxibus, cheaper than normal taxis.

Meals

Monday 18th is bank holiday in Switzerland, therefore unfortunately the university canteens will be closed on that day.

Lunches from Tuesday 19th to Friday 22th will be provided at the FoodLab Alpine restaurant, inside EPFL Campus. There will be a social dinner on Wednesday 20th September at 19:00 at the Lacustre (Quai Jean-Pascal Delamuraz 1, 1006 Lausanne).
