Managing working conditions during the high-impact phase of the Double Deck project

This document was created by the VPH office, the Employee Experience team, and VPH legal counsel to support managers and their teams during the Double Deck work that will begin on July 7, 2025.

It brings together practical information and essential recommendations to answer the main questions that unit managers may encounter regarding work management.

Planning

Car Park Closures

The Esplanade car park is permanently closed to the public starting from April 30, 2025. The construction site perimeter (orange zone on the plans) is inaccessible from July 7, 2025.

Mobility

The range of mobility services (bike facilities, EPFL Cargobikes, charging stations for electric vehicles, Mobility car-sharing) remains available outside this perimeter. Information on mobility services and infrastructure on campus can be found on the commuter mobility pages.

The Esplanade bicycle parking (152 spaces) has been relocated to Chemin du Barrage, on former car parking spots. As the work progressed quickly, the double-decker bike rack is now available for users.

For questions about bike infrastructure and electric charging stations, please contact [email protected]

Main waste collection center Relocation

During the construction period of the Double Deck project, a transitory waste collection center was set up (Jean Tschumi street). All types of waste produced on EPFL campus are accepted there.

During this period, every effort will be made to maintain services. Nevertheless, please remember to anticipate your request (e.g. : laboratory closure, special event, etc.) by contacting [email protected] before visiting the transitory waste collection center.

A map showing the various waste disposal locations at the waste collection center is available.

Restaurants

The food trucks are relocated to the Place Cosandey during the construction work.

The Coupole-Esplanade restaurant will close on December 31, 2025, and will reopen after the Coupole renovations.
