Loss of earnings insurance (APG) compensates part of the salary when an employee is temporarily absent for specific legal reasons. It only applies to certain types of official duties.
What APG Covers
The insurance applies only in the following cases:
- Military service (including refresher courses)
- Civil service
- Youth & Sports (J+S) training courses
It does not cover absences due to illness or accidents. Other systems are in place for those situations (e.g., absence management, SUVA accident insurance).
Steps to Follow
- At the end of the service or course, the relevant organization will issue an APG form
- This form must be completed and submitted to EPFL’s Social Insurance Service
Reimbursement
- The amount paid by the insurance is credited to the fund that covered the salary during the absence
- This allows the unit concerned to recover part of the costs related to the absence
