To deepen a particular educational aspect or to develop interfaces with other EPFL sections, the student must complete either an educational unit offered as a specialization within the Section of Environmental Sciences and Engineering or a minor offered by EPFL.
The specializations proposed by the Section are the following:
- A Chemical and Environmental Bioprocess
- B Water, Soil and Ecosystems Engineering
- C Monitoring and Modeling of the Environment
The specializations are composed of some “Specific branches” and some “Optional branches” chosen by the student from a list mentioned in the study plan.
With prior approval from the Section, the student may chose branches not mentioned in the official Section list for the specialization.
The selection of courses that make up a minor is made with the Section of Environmental Sciences and Engineering and with the responsible person for the minor. The minor “Environmental Sciences and Engineering” may not be chosen.
The student communicates his/her choice of specialization or minor to the Section at the latest by the end of the first semester of the master cycle. A minor or a specialization are completed once a minimum of 30 credits are obtained from the approved branches.
In case a minor is dropped over the course of studies, the Environmental Sciences and Engineering Section determines the number of credits that may be validated for transfer to the optional group.
