- Brain-Gut interaction during cybersickness with active control ( Contact: [email protected])
During this project, you will have two main missions: 1. Experiment with EEG and EGG to test the brain-gut interaction. 2 To do data analysis on EEG and EGG data
Required skills:- To be rigorous (respecting the protocol, double-checking data retrieved from the participants)
- Familiarity with EEG and its data analysis is a plus. ( Not necessary)
- Familiar with Unity programming
- Real-time Optic flow analysis in 3D virtual environment for detect cybersickness (Contact: [email protected])
During this project, you will have two main missions: 1. Implement the optic flow analysis in 3D virtual environment. 2. Test if it’s a reliable measure to access cybersickness for different scenes.
Required skills:- To be rigorous (respecting the protocol, double-checking data retrieved from the participants)
- Familiarity with Computer vision
- Familiar with Unity programming
- Towards a framework to detect cybersickness (Contact: [email protected])
During this project, you will have one main mission: Implement a framework that enables the manipulation of different factors
Required skills:- Familiar with Unity programming
- 3D manipulation of prepherial vision to reduce cybersickness (Contact: [email protected])
During this project, you will have two main missions: 1. Potentially create or modify a shader in Unity to manipulate the prepherial vision 2. Conduct an experiment to Test if it’s a reliable measure to reduce cybersickness
Required skills:- To be rigorous (respecting the protocol, double-checking data retrieved from the participants)
- Familiar with Unity programming
- Real-time adpation of FOV reduction based on machine learning preditions (Contact: [email protected]) [Optional]
Required skills:- To be rigorous (respecting the protocol, double-checking data retrieved from the participants)
- Familiar with Unity programming
Registration:
It is not possible to ask an assistant to keep a project for you for a while. We accept only firm registration done by making the official application on IS-Academia. Before doing so, the student must have the agreement of the person proposing the project.
How to get the list of projects already officially taken:
It may happen that a project is already taken by a student and this fact is not yet reflected in the list on his page. If you want to see the list of projects officially taken, just proceed as follow:
1) from www.epfl.ch go to the “Etudiant”, then “IS – Academia”, then “Acces public”, then “Inscription aux projets,… par enseignants” / “registration for projects, TP … by lecturer (according to information provided by students)”
2) You arrive on a page where you have to select:
The academic year
The semester “automne” or “printemps“
Then the name of the lecturer. type “Boulic“, then choose “Boulic Ronan“
Summer Research Internships
Immersive Interactions Research Group IIG
Paid internship to answer whether Virtual Reality enhances training capabilities for manual tasks compared to traditional training[Taken]This paid internship aims to run an experiment in which participants would be asked to train themselves at a manual task. Participants would either be trained regularly or in VR, and then the different groups would be compared to determine which one yields the best results.
As this contribution aims to improve the scientific community’s knowledge, this project requires someone rigorous at a task. For instance, respecting the protocol, double-checking data retrieved from the participants, etc.
Familiarity with experimental environments (e.g., taking notes while running the experiment, providing feedback on the experiment) and common sense are highly valuable skills for this internship.
Finally, as this project runs on Unity3D, it is compulsory to know how to use this game editor.Experimental results would then be submitted as a paper in a scientific journal or conference.
The internship would start on the 15th of July and end on the 15th of August.

Paid internship to assess the contribution of foot’s motion analysis in the control of a bi-directional treadmill in a Virtual Environment (VR)[Taken]This paid internship aims to run an experiment in which participants would be asked to walk on a bi-directional treadmill while wearing an HMD. Participants would follow different directions while the choice of the algorithm controlling the treadmill would be randomized.
Then the different algorithms would be compared to determine which one provides the user with the best experience. As this contribution aims to improve the scientific community’s knowledge, this project requires someone rigorous at a task. For instance, respecting the protocol, double-checking data retrieved from the participants, etc.
