EPFL researchers identify rubber-related chemicals in Swiss milk

— Researchers at EPFL and the Swiss Federal Office of Food Safety have identified several rubber-related chemicals in Swiss raw milk. The study also suggests that dairy equipment may be an overlooked source of contamination.

Satellite imagery gives experts a better understanding of conflict

— A study co-authored by researchers from EPFL, ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich shows how satellite data can support humanitarian conflict analysis, helping provide a clearer picture of the consequences of war and reduce the toll on civilians.

Hidden microplastic pollution in Swiss waters uncovered

— A new technique developed by EPFL has revealed that tiny microplastics in Lake Geneva and surrounding waterways are far more abundant than previously thought.

A friendship, a semester's project, and a scientific article

EPFL researchers have developed a nanopore sensor that distinguishes seven toxins from cyanobacteria blooms, and can detect one common toxin at concentrations far below World Health Organization guidelines.

Auréline Grange, who holds a master’s degree in environmental engineering from EPFL, works at the crossroads of technological innovation and purpose-driven entrepreneurship. She is a co-founder of both On a Mission, a nonprofit organization set up in 2019 to fund reforestation projects run by local communities, and Open Forest Protocol, a 2020 startup that has developed open-source, transparent blockchain technology for tracking reforestation projects.
